Some type of tweeters can easily damage, but fear not, car audio repair shops and maintenance crews can fix these problems. This works for various high-end tweeters, where buying new one should be expensive.
For dome tweeters are vulnerable to dome denting. They can be dented by the distortion that makes the voice coil out of round. To fix this, the following tools and methods are required. Vacuum cleaner nozzle, sticky tape, bent pin, removal and refit of the dome assembly to enable access to the rear of the dome.
Paper cone tweeter can get tearing of the paper cone. This type of damage usually happen to old tweeter and with low value. But to fix it, the small piece of plasticized paper like vinyl record lining paper can be used, and also a flexible glue. This will add tweeter weight and affecting the performance. Using only glue adds less weight but it’s not effective.
Electrostatic tweeters can get membrane holing because of arcing. The whole membranes should be replaced if they are in poor shape. Consider the membrane resistance matching for proper performance. Using OEM film or charcoal applied to bare plastic film polished off can be applied to get the required resistance.
The horn tweeter should get routine debris removing using a hook to fish them out or removing the horn.
Voice coils of tweeters aren’t often rewound since tweeters are cheap.
