When installing a new head unit for your car, and you find that the sound from the system sound worse than the old head unit, and no matter how you tweak the receiver’s setting you still find a certain tinniness to the sound and with weaker bass, you should take a look at your amp settings.

Check the gain setting of the amp. If you have a four channel amp with the amp’s front channels power a pair of component speakers and the back channels are bridged for the sub, and if you set both the front and the rear channels at the same level, you should lower the gain for the front channels to get an immediate, better, fuller and stronger bass response sound for your system.
It may seem counter-intuitive to lower the gain, but the lower gain on the front channels will improve the balance between the sub and the rest of the system. By lowering the front channel output, and adding the bass output relatively to the rest of the system, obtain the better, richer and stronger bass when the receiver’s volume is set.
Don’t hesitate to experiment with different front and rear gain setting of your multi-channel amp. You might even get your own perfect settings
